North Rhine-Westphalia: Investigations against SEK officials stopped

Bielefeld (dpa / lnw) - After a badge was found on the uniform of a Bielefeld SEK officer, the public prosecutor's office stopped criminal investigations against the police officer. There was no indication of a right-wing attitude, a police spokesman said on Tuesday of the German Press Agency. The special forces officer had attached an ancient Greek phrase, which is supposed to signal determination and the will to fight, to his uniform with Velcro. This includes a Spartan helmet as a symbol.

The case became public after an operation in July via Twitter. Internally, the SEK officials are still being investigated. It still has to be clarified whether wearing the symbol has disciplinary consequences. According to the police, there is an internal directive that generally prohibits foreign patches.

The "Neue Westfälische" (online) had previously reported on the termination of the criminal investigation.
