North Rhine-Westphalia: Judgment against priests for abuse is final

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The verdict against a Catholic priest who was sentenced to twelve years in prison for child abuse in Cologne is final. This was announced by a court spokeswoman on Monday on request. The appeal against the decision had been withdrawn. "Bild" had reported about it.

On February 25, the court found the clergyman guilty of sexually abusing nine girls in Gummersbach, Wuppertal and Zülpich from 1993 to 2018, some of them severely. According to the court, all suffer from "catastrophic consequences" such as depression, anxiety psychosis, anorexia, recurring nightmares and feelings of guilt. In all, the pastor was found guilty on 110 counts. The youngest victim was nine years old.

According to earlier court reports, the priest had appealed against the verdict.
