North Rhine-Westphalia: Keyless systems overcome - car theft process

Bielefeld (dpa / lnw) - Three men have had to answer in court in Bielefeld since Wednesday because they are said to have broken into or stolen expensive cars in more than 50 cases. Among other things, they are said to have overcome the "keyless go systems" of the cars, which enable them to start without an ignition key, as the Bielefeld district court announced. In total, the three are said to have stolen loot worth almost 550,000 euros.

The men, aged 23, 32 and 34, are accused of, among other things, aggravated gang theft. They are said to have committed the crimes between summer 2021 and summer 2022. The focus was on the East Westphalia area, but they are also accused of crimes in Münster and Sauerland and in Euskirchen. They are said to have either defeated the keyless systems or smashed windows.

Then, according to the information, they either stole headlights, sat navs, speedometer units and steering wheels or drove away with the car altogether. The 34-year-old is said to have been involved in all 55 acts, the other two men only in some.
