North Rhine-Westphalia: Less raw wood exports from NRW: but price increases

Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - From January to June 2022, significantly less raw wood was exported from North Rhine-Westphalia than in the first half of 2021, but the companies were able to benefit from significant price increases. With 1.2 million tons of tree trunks or roughly trimmed timber, 23 percent less was exported from January to June than in the first half of 2021, the state statistical office IT.NRW announced on Thursday.

However, the value of the wood exported fell by only 0.8 percent compared to the same period last year to 156 million euros: the price in the first half of 2022 was around 131 euros per tonne, a good 29 euros higher than a year earlier.

As in previous years, most of the NRW wood went to China, followed by Belgium and the Netherlands. However, according to the statistics office, it is not recorded whether the goods are transported to other countries via seaports after being exported from NRW.
