North Rhine-Westphalia: Less sausage in NRW

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Sausage production in North Rhine-Westphalia fell last year. The 130 processing companies produced 272,600 tons, which was 3.1 percent less than in 2020, as the IT.NRW statistics office announced on Tuesday. "In purely mathematical terms, this amount would be enough to supply every inhabitant of the country with 1.3 kilograms of sausage every month." The sales value fell by 56 million euros - 3.7 percent - to 1.4 billion euros.

Raw sausage such as salami, tea sausage and Mettwurst made up the largest production volume, followed by boiled sausage, i.e. bockwurst, meat loaf or beer ham. Around 1.4 million tons of sausage (down 8.9 percent) worth 7.3 billion euros (down 5.4 percent) were produced nationwide in 2021.
