North Rhine-Westphalia: Life imprisonment for the knife murder of his wife

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A family man in Düsseldorf has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife. The 40-year-old wanted to punish his wife, the district court found on Monday, according to a spokeswoman, and in fact saw the murder characteristic of low motives fulfilled.

At the start of the trial, the defendant claimed that he could not remember. But it could be that he grabbed a knife during a fight in the kitchen: "My brain was switched off." Nevertheless, the Armenian said: "I regret it and would like to apologize to my parents-in-law and my children."

The couple decided in 2016 that the woman would go to Germany with their daughters, who were six and eight at the time, and he would remain in Armenia. According to the indictment, a dispute broke out during his last visit to Düsseldorf on November 3 last year.

In the kitchen of the Düsseldorf apartment, the man is said to have stabbed the woman with a kitchen knife with a blade length of about 20 centimeters. A coroner counted 14 stab wounds on her body.

It is said that the daughters, who are now seven and twelve years old, did not notice anything. The prosecution had called revenge for the separation operated by the woman as a motive.
