North Rhine-Westphalia: Light art and currywurst: the Ruhr area celebrates an extra shift

Oberhausen (dpa/lnw) - Light art and rock music, 3D performances and currywurst - the Ruhr area is celebrating the Extraschicht cultural festival again this Saturday (from 5 p.m.) after two years of the Corona compulsory break. 43 venues in 23 cities from Unna to Moers are planned, as announced by the Ruhr Tourism Association.

Venues include the former Zollverein colliery in Essen and the Nordsternpark in Gelsenkirchen, the Henrichenburg ship lift in Waltrop and the airship hangar at Mülheim Airport. As a new focus, the organizers at four locations in Bochum, Hattingen, Dortmund and Dinslaken are focusing on digital art in 3D and artificial reality.

As usual, visitors with the 20 euro ticket (advance purchase 17 euro) can use the shuttle buses between the attractions from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. and public transport until 7 a.m. during the "Night of Industrial Culture".

In previous years before the pandemic, 200,000 to 300,000 visitors had been counted. "We hope to build on that again," said a spokeswoman.
