Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - In the first quarter of 2022, around 435 million passengers were transported by public transport companies in North Rhine-Westphalia by train, bus or tram. That is a good eight percent more than in the previous year - but around 23 percent less than before the corona pandemic in the first quarter of 2019, as the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday based on preliminary results.

In the first quarter of 2022, there were around 22.4 million passengers on the railway. That is around 17 percent less than in the same period last year. Around 134 million people (plus twelve percent) were transported by trams and around 293 million people (plus nine percent) by local buses. Only companies based in NRW and at least 250,000 passengers per year are included in the rating.
