Location (dpa / lnw) - Because unknown persons had loosened the wheel nuts on his car, a 56-year-old man could have had a serious accident. However, the driver from Lage (Lippe district) got away with a fright - even though he drove the car onto the autobahn and one of the wheels came off. Whether the perpetrators wanted to steal the wheels or cause an accident is still unclear, the police said on Wednesday. The man was unharmed.
The 56-year-old parked his pick-up in a yard between Sunday evening and Monday morning, it said. On Monday he was driving the vehicle in the Herford area. He had already noticed that something was wrong. During the check, however, he could not find any obvious defect, so he postponed a visit to the workshop and drove onto Autobahn 2. One of the wheels got loose there. The police is now looking for witnesses.
