North Rhine-Westphalia: major fire in Halle: measuring vehicles check air pollutants

Haan (dpa / lnw) - About a hundred firefighters fought a large fire in a warehouse in an industrial area in Haan (Mettmann district) near Düsseldorf on Thursday. The fire was reported at 3.10 a.m. and was clearly visible when it arrived, the city of Haan said. Materials stored in the burning hall, such as plastic granulate and paint, would have caused a cloud of smoke that could be seen from afar. Since the hall is in danger of collapsing, it is difficult to use. According to the fire brigade, the extinguishing work should last at least until noon.

According to the city, measuring vehicles are on the move in the area affected by the smoke to analyze pollutants in the air. If this results in new findings, the population will be warned. No information was initially given about the cause of the fire. According to the fire department, no one was injured.
