Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) - A person died in an apartment fire in Gelsenkirchen on Monday night. Firefighters found the tenant unconscious in the apartment, a spokesman for the fire department said. Despite attempts at resuscitation, he died on the spot.
The fire was extinguished before it could spread to the attic or the apartment below. The cause of the fire was still unclear as of Monday morning. The apartment is no longer habitable. According to the fire brigade spokesman, initial estimates of the damage amount to up to 100,000 euros.
