North Rhine-Westphalia: man intervenes in a dispute: dies two weeks later

Steinhagen (dpa / lnw) - About two weeks after a brawl in Steinhagen in the Gütersloh district, a seriously injured 51-year-old died in a clinic. This was announced by the public prosecutor's office in Bielefeld and the police in Gütersloh on Tuesday. The man from Halle, Westphalia, wanted to intervene to de-escalate a dispute between two opponents on the night of December 18th. A man from Gütersloh intervened with him. He was slightly injured.

However, the argument between a 46-year-old from Halle and his opponent from Gütersloh led to a fight between the four involved, as a police spokesman described. The crime happened after a party in a restaurant in the parking lot there. The 51-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries after being kicked in the head. The 46-year-old suspect is in custody after the homicide.

The 51-year-old man from Halle succumbed to his injuries on New Year's Day in the Bielefeld Clinic. According to an autopsy on Tuesday, he died as a result of a traumatic brain injury.
