North Rhine-Westphalia: Many cases of illness: Several railway lines are canceled

Dusseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Cases of illness among employees continue to cause many failures in North Rhine-Westphalia. "Due to the currently tense personnel situation due to a high level of sick leave among our train drivers," a regional express and a regional train line were canceled for almost three weeks, said DB Regio NRW. On Tuesday, due to short-term staff shortages, there were no trains on many other lines.

RE 49 trains between Wesel and Wuppertal will therefore be canceled until August 7th. The same applies to the RB 32 between Dortmund and Duisburg on weekdays, on weekends there is still a two-hour cycle. Passengers should switch to other lines in the meantime, the railway recommended.

Due to an unoccupied signal box, trains on the RB 71 between Lübbecke and Rahden north of Bielefeld will be canceled until Sunday. The S-Bahn line 6 between Cologne-Mülheim and Cologne-Wörringen has not been running since the end of May, and the failure will last until August 5th.

Due to a short-term illness of staff, there were complete failures on the RB 54 line on Tuesday morning, according to DB Regio NRW. There were also no trains on the RE 16, RB 46, RB 50 and RB 91 lines for several hours due to short-term failures.

A survey by the German Press Agency at the beginning of July revealed that several transport companies in North Rhine-Westphalia are struggling with staff shortages. The reasons for this include corona diseases and the subsequent quarantine period for employees, which also falls during the summer holidays, when a lot of vacation time is traditionally taken.
