North Rhine-Westphalia: Many proposals for refugee accommodation are unsuitable

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Most of the proposals by the Federal Agency for Real Estate (Bima) for refugee accommodation are unsuitable from the point of view of the North Rhine-Westphalian state government. Of the 39 properties that the bima had proposed so far, only 3 would even be considered for an in-depth examination, said NRW refugee minister Josefine Paul of the "Rheinische Post" (Thursday edition).

"It would be desirable and important if the federal government provided us with accommodation and areas that we could quickly start something with," emphasized the Greens politician. Unfortunately, in most cases the opposite is the case. "Sometimes the repair of Bima objects takes half a year." The state government is now hoping for further efforts by the federal government to provide suitable objects.

According to the state government, around 220,000 people have fled to North Rhine-Westphalia from the war in Ukraine, and the number of people seeking protection from other countries is also increasing. The federal government had promised the states help in finding real estate to accommodate people.
