North Rhine-Westphalia: Meat producer Westfleisch is making a profit again

Münster (dpa / lnw) - After a year of losses, the meat producer Westfleisch has managed to return to profitability. The slaughterhouse operator from Münster reported on Monday evening based on preliminary figures of a profit of 26 million euros last year. According to the annual report, in 2021 there was still a loss of 12 million. At that time, Westfleisch was struggling with the consequences of Corona and African swine fever. According to the company, things are now going better again: last year sales increased by 17 percent to 3 billion euros. This was due to significantly higher prices.

"In 2022 we benefited from our good market position on the one hand, and on the other hand we were able to significantly increase our profitability thanks to our own extensive program of measures," said CFO Carsten Schruck. In the past year and a half, processes have been streamlined and structures and shift models have been improved. For the coming years, Westfleisch expects declining sales in Germany, export barriers and a "noticeable structural change in agriculture". Westfleisch is one of Germany's largest slaughterhouse operators.
