North Rhine-Westphalia: metal warning strikes with 7000 employees from 61 companies

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Two days before the fourth round of negotiations in the wage dispute in the North Rhine-Westphalian metal and electrical industry, thousands of employees have again underlined their demands in warning strikes. According to IG Metall, around 7,000 employees from 61 companies followed the union's call on Tuesday. The largest action took place on the marketplace in Lemgo, where almost 3,600 employees from 34 companies demonstrated. IG Metall announced warning strikes in 45 companies for Wednesday. The employers had described the warning strikes on Monday as a "huge nuisance".

Negotiations in Neuss are to continue on Thursday. In Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, negotiations should be held for the fourth time on Tuesday.

In the nationwide regionally conducted negotiations, the employers had each offered one-off payments of 3,000 euros and an unspecified increase in the wage tables for a period of 30 months. IG Metall is demanding eight percent more money for the approximately 3.9 million employees nationwide for a period of twelve months. Around 700,000 people are employed in the sector in NRW.
