North Rhine-Westphalia: Million fraud: Cologne arrested on Mallorca

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Cologne investigators have arrested a suspect on Mallorca for suspected fraud with Corona aid. The man from Cologne is said to have wrongly received more than one million euros in pandemic-related economic aid, the police and public prosecutor announced on Wednesday. He was brought to Germany on Tuesday.

According to the information, the 48-year-old fled immediately before a large-scale search operation by the police in April and fled to Mallorca. He was then wanted with a European arrest warrant.

A 58-year-old suspect was arrested during the search. The public prosecutor's office has meanwhile brought charges against them for subsidy fraud with a damage amount of around 600,000 euros.
