North Rhine-Westphalia: Ministers present NRW concept against forest fires

Fire brigades have repeatedly had to extinguish fires in the forests in recent weeks. Experts from the ministries of agriculture and the interior have now drawn up a concept for prevention and control.

Wermelskirchen (dpa / lnw) - Minister of the Interior Herbert Reul and Minister of Agriculture Silke Gorißen (both CDU) are presenting a concept for preventing and fighting forest fires in North Rhine-Westphalia today (10 a.m.) in the Bergisches Land. The new handout is intended to help protect forests better against fires in the future. The specialist knowledge of the fire brigades and the experts from the state forest and wood company have also been incorporated into the concept, which will be presented in the open air in Wermelskirchen.

One of the plans is to keep forest paths 3.50 meters wide open so that heavy fire engines can also drive on them. In addition, aisles are to be created in the forests to prevent fires from spreading. The concept was developed jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Interior.
