North Rhine-Westphalia: Ministry of the Interior: No evidence of "Green RAF" in NRW

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Despite around 100 extremists, the security authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia see no evidence of a radicalization of the climate movement "or the establishment of a terrorist cell in the sense of a "Green RAF". The Ministry of the Interior writes this in a report to the state parliament.

Accordingly, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is observing extremist actors within the climate movement. According to the Ministry of the Interior, in NRW they mingle with the squatters in the Rhenish lignite mining area - such as in the Hambach Forest or in Lützerath. In addition, extremists were noticed in local groups of "Ende Gelände". Left-wing extremists also took part in "Fridays for Future" demos.

"In total, the number of extremists involved in the climate movement in North Rhine-Westphalia amounts to around 100 people, according to the assessment of the North Rhine-Westphalian Office for the Protection of the Constitution," according to the report to the interior committee. The people did not have a decisive influence on the overall movement.
