North Rhine-Westphalia: mother stabbed and severed head: son is silent

A woman from Mülheim an der Ruhr is cruelly killed. Now her son is in court - and is silent.

Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - After the cruel killing of a woman from Mülheim an der Ruhr, the trial against the son of the dead man began in Duisburg on Tuesday. The 36-year-old is said to have stabbed his mother 18 times in the head and back with a kitchen knife on December 1, 2021. The head of the 68-year-old was then severed. The 36-year-old cannot be punished. According to the public prosecutor's office, he is not guilty because of a serious mental illness. To protect the general public, however, he is threatened with indefinite confinement in a closed psychiatric ward. At the start of the process, the 36-year-old had not yet commented on the allegations.

At the time of the crime, mother and son lived in a shared apartment in Mülheim. The public prosecutor assumes that there was a dispute on the day of the crime, during which the Bosnian-Herzegovinian suspect grabbed a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed him. He is said to have smashed the later severed head with the base of a table.

At the time of the crime, the 36-year-old, who is also said to be suffering from hallucinations, is said to have been in an acute phase of the disease. The judges at the Duisburg district court have scheduled three more days of trial until August 16th for the trial.
