North Rhine-Westphalia: Motorcades remain the main reason for weddings

Weddings can not only trigger great feelings - but also the visit of the police. Especially long motorcades have to be stopped again and again. One city stands out particularly often.

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - When it comes to operations because of escalating weddings in North Rhine-Westphalia, motorcades continue to be the main problem for the police. This year there were already 37 operations between January and June in which weddings got out of control, that said NRW Ministry of the Interior on dpa request. In 14 cases, columns of cars were the problem.

On April 1, 2019, the counting and statistical recording of wedding missions began. In the Corona years, the number of operations fell: while there were 495 operations in 2019, the police officers only came to wedding celebrations 113 times in 2020. In 2021, only 41 missions were registered by October.

A total of 678 operations have been reported since counting began, 95 of them on motorways. In 306 cases, the police appeared because of motorcades - this corresponds to a share of around 45 percent. Shots were reported 160 times, in 97 cases these could also be proven on site. There were a total of 195 traffic delays.

Since then, the wedding parties have given the police in Duisburg the most work, with 82 operations, followed by Cologne (56), Düsseldorf (56), Essen (55) and Recklinghausen (48).
