North Rhine-Westphalia: motorcycle race with stolen scooter: driver injured

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - During an illegal motorcycle race with a scooter driver in Cologne's Neustadt-Süd on Monday night, a 22-year-old was seriously injured when he fell with his machine. In addition to the suspicion of a prohibited motor vehicle race, the young man is accused of having been on the road with the motorcycle, which is not registered for road traffic and which also had stolen license plates. As the police announced on Monday, an unknown person on a scooter is said to have been involved.

According to current knowledge, the 22-year-old from Cologne lost control of his motorcycle around 1 a.m. near the southern bridge when overtaking an uninvolved car. The driver crashed into a curb and against the car driving parallel to Bayenthal.

After the fall, a second driver involved sped away on a Vespa, which, according to investigations, had already been stolen on Saturday in Cologne's old town. The investigation into the fugitive scooter driver and the theft were still ongoing. The police are now hoping for witnesses who can provide information about the scooter driver and/or the whereabouts of the vehicle.
