North Rhine-Westphalia: Museum director from Morsbroich takes stock

The Morsbroich Museum is idyllically situated in a moated castle on the outskirts of Leverkusen. The existential worries of the past few years have given way. Director Jörg van den Berg has been in charge for a year. Time for a look.

Leverkusen (dpa / lnw) - In August last year, the curator Jörg van den Berg took over the management of the Morsbroich Museum in Leverkusen, which is known for its contemporary collection. On Tuesday (11:00 a.m.) van den Berg will take stock and present plans. A few years ago, the Kunsthaus, housed in a listed moated castle, was at times even on the brink. Because auditors had recommended in a report that the museum be closed for cost reasons. The imminent end of the house, which opened in 1951, had sparked protests across the country.

The collection of around 400 paintings and sculptures and around 5000 graphics includes works by Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, Rosemarie Trockel, Blinky Palermo and Sigmar Polke.
