North Rhine-Westphalia: New family minister presents the most important projects

Several specialist committees of the state parliament are getting into the political work of the new electoral term this week. The ministers are there to answer questions about their plans - including the Green Family Minister Paul.

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The new North Rhine-Westphalian Family Minister Josefine Paul (Greens) will present her priorities for this election period in the Düsseldorf state parliament today (10 a.m.). At the constitutive meeting of the Committee for Family, Children and Youth, the opposition is also expecting a report on the start of the new kindergarten year. The agenda includes the topics of Corona, language training and staff shortages in the day-care centers.

The state government is currently providing eight rapid corona tests per child per month. Children with corona symptoms can be excluded from care as long as no negative self-test is presented. The education and science union had criticized the introduction of this regulation, which would lead to conflicts in daycare centers and schools and overwhelmed the staff with health assessments.

So far, there have been no concrete statements on the question of when exactly the third non-contributory daycare year and free catering announced in the coalition agreement will be implemented. NRW Finance Minister Marcus Optendrenk (CDU) had already announced this week that the room for maneuver for their own black-green projects is currently "very little to zero" given the great cost pressure resulting from the energy crisis and inflation.
