Herten (dpa / lnw) - The city of Herten in the northern Ruhr area has a new S-Bahn stop. At 6:11 a.m., the first train on the S 9 S-Bahn line in the direction of Hagen Hauptbahnhof stopped at the newly built “Herten (Westf)” stop, Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced on Sunday in Düsseldorf. Travelers reached Recklinghausen train station from Herten in eight minutes. In the opposite direction, take the S 9 in the direction of Essen and Wuppertal to Hagen. It is expected that there will be more than 1000 users in Herten every day. The stop is near the city center of the 62,000-inhabitant city.

According to the Rhein-Ruhr transport association, the new station cost almost seven million euros. Elevators to the platforms will soon be built. The construction of a second station in the city is also being planned. The DB boss in NRW, Werner Lübberink, sees the new stop as "another piece of the puzzle on the way to the traffic turnaround in NRW". Mayor Matthias Müller commented: "This new stop means a lot for Herten".
