North Rhine-Westphalia: New Secretary General Ziemiak is looking forward to the CDU basis

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The new Secretary General of the NRW-CDU, Paul Ziemiak, says he is particularly looking forward to working on site and with the members. After his presentation in the CDU parliamentary group on Tuesday, Ziemiak told the dpa that he did not have to move for his new job. "We live in Iserlohn, that's where I'm at home and I don't want to leave."

The 37-year-old was Secretary General of the federal CDU from 2018 to early 2022, for which he also sits in the Bundestag. Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst, who is also the head of his party, presented Ziemiak on Monday evening as a surprising proposal for the open office of CDU general secretary in North Rhine-Westphalia. Ziemiak still has to officially elect a party congress, until then he should hold the office on an acting basis.

Wüst and Ziemiak have known each other for many years. "We have a close relationship of trust," said Ziemiak.
