North Rhine-Westphalia: New vaccines: Land expects 2.8 million units

Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - The state government initially expects 2.8 million doses of the new corona vaccines for North Rhine-Westphalia in the coming weeks. The new vaccination campaign is currently being prepared, but still depends on the expected recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission, the NRW Ministry of Health announced on Thursday evening.

The Ministry of Health assumes that the vaccination recommendation will apply to people in nursing homes and in residential facilities for disabled people. The institutions responsible for vaccination should also prepare vaccination offers for vulnerable groups of people and for people with poor family doctor care. Districts and independent cities should activate a third of the planned maximum vaccination capacities.

The European Medicines Agency EMA gave the green light for two new vaccines from Biontech and Moderna on Thursday. They are adapted to the Omicron variant. The two vaccines could be used for booster vaccinations for people aged twelve and over.
