North Rhine-Westphalia: NRW accepts further women's shelters in state funding

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The state government in North Rhine-Westphalia has included five women's shelters in Datteln, Minden, Münster, Recklinghausen and Salzkotten in the funding. This increases the number of state-funded women's shelters from 64 to 69, the Ministry of Family Affairs announced on Thursday.

"For many years, the facilities have helped ensure that women affected by violence and their children receive fast and qualified protection and support," said Minister Josefine Paul (Greens) on the admission, according to the announcement. According to this, the institutions for women's aid in the state could also rely on reliable funding from the state.

From 2023, compared to 2020, nine million euros more would be available annually for the permanent expansion of the aid structures. In addition, from 2023, in addition to the admission of further women's shelters, a specialist position for working with the children living in the women's shelters should also be set up.

In addition to the women's shelters, the state is currently funding 62 general women's advice centers and 53 specialist advice centers against sexualised violence.
