North Rhine-Westphalia: NRW ignites the first stage for equal starting salaries for teachers

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - North Rhine-Westphalia is gradually starting to adjust the starting salary for all teaching positions. Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) announced on Tuesday in Düsseldorf that the black-green coalition is making good on its commitment from the coalition agreement and will start with the first stage in the current year.

Accordingly, all initial salaries are to be gradually increased to A 13 and the payment of teachers who are already active is to be adjusted accordingly. So far, teachers at primary, secondary, comprehensive and special schools in NRW have been paid less than teachers at the upper level of the Gymnasium, who earn around 500 euros more gross per month with an A 13 - depending on marital status.

The new regulation is to be implemented with an addendum to the Budget Act 2022, which the NRW cabinet passed on Tuesday. The budget volume is said to increase by 900 million to 88.4 billion euros. The supplementary budget is also planned without new debt. "We do not issue bad checks," said Wüst. The state parliament still has to approve the draft.
