Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - On Monday in Düsseldorf, researchers from North Rhine-Westphalia were awarded the state's innovation prize for outstanding achievements. The main prize, worth EUR 100,000, went to Antonello Monti from RWTH Aachen University, who developed a software platform for distribution network operators with his team. This means that more electricity from renewable energies can be fed into the grid, as the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced.

In Jülich, two researchers developed an inexpensive rapid malaria test with the help of biosensors. You will receive 30,000 euros. In the young talent category, 50,000 euros will go to a research team from the University of Münster, which has set up its own mini cameras. An undoped honorary award for his innovation research goes to the president of the economic research institute RWI, Christoph Schmidt.

"Inventiveness and commitment - these have long been the most important raw materials in this country," said Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst. With talent, perseverance and determination, the award winners have achieved breakthroughs that have attracted international attention, said Economics Minister Andreas Pinkwart.
