North Rhine-Westphalia: NRW: More places in state-owned refugee accommodation

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In order to be prepared for the possible flight of more people from the Ukraine in winter, thousands more places are to be created in the state accommodations in North Rhine-Westphalia. "In view of the current numbers of immigrants and the tense accommodation situation in the municipalities, the state is working flat out to build up additional capacities," said a spokeswoman for the refugee ministry of the "Rheinische Post" (Thursday).

The conditions have been created to get more than 34,000 places in the short term. As of mid-October, there were 26,341 places, compared to around 15,000 before the start of the war. Most recently, according to the ministry, 69 percent of the state accommodation was occupied.

"It is not possible to make a serious forecast of how many refugees will seek protection with us in the coming months," said the ministry spokeswoman for the "Rheinische Post". However, the state government is preparing for higher access numbers, especially with a view to the seasonal weather conditions.
