North Rhine-Westphalia: NRW police: In terms of numbers, the situation is rather quiet

Düsseldorf/Cologne (dpa/lnw) - After New Year's Eve, the state control center of the police in North Rhine-Westphalia reported a "rather quiet" operational situation measured by the numbers. That's what an official said in the morning of the German Press Agency.

Shortly after the turn of the year, the police in Düsseldorf and Cologne reported operations involving "various rioters and people hitting each other". Firecrackers were also fired in the direction of people. In addition, with increasing alcohol levels, there were also minor arguments and bullying.

After two new years, people in NRW were allowed to celebrate New Year's Eve with Corona measures again without any major restrictions. In some large cities in North Rhine-Westphalia, no firecracker zones had been set up for safety reasons on New Year's Eve. In Cologne, Düsseldorf, Bielefeld and Dortmund, for example, fireworks could only be set off outside the restricted zones at the turn of the year.
