North Rhine-Westphalia: NRW relaxes rules for solar systems on monuments

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Owners of listed buildings will be able to have solar systems built there more easily in the future. In principle, these should be permitted if they do not represent a significant impairment of the monument, the Ministry of Building clarified on Tuesday in Düsseldorf. "Many owners of monuments want to make a contribution to climate protection and make their monument future-proof with a solar system," explained Minister Ina Scharrenbach (CDU). Her house has now issued decision-making guidelines for this.

If you want to have a solar system installed on or on a monument, you need a permit under monument protection law. In principle, however, there is a legal right to this, which is not at the discretion of the monument authority. For example, it should be checked whether an outbuilding is better suited for a solar system. As a rule, solar systems are always permitted if they cannot be seen from the outside.
