Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The number of births has fallen significantly in North Rhine-Westphalia. Last year, around 164,300 children were born alive, 6.3 percent fewer than in 2021, the state statistics office IT.NRW announced on Monday in Düsseldorf. The comparative value from 2021 was high, as there had been the highest number of births since 1999. Looking back at the past few years, the number of births between 2016 and 2021 was relatively high at between 170,000 and 175,000. Before that, there were fewer: around 160,000 children were born in 2015, around 155,000 in 2014 and around 146,000 in 2013.
