Mönchengladbach/Oettingen (dpa/lnw) - In view of declining sales in Germany, the private brewery Oettinger is also making changes at its North Rhine-Westphalian location. In Mönchengladbach, a reusable system will be shut down, Oettinger said at the request of the German Press Agency. However, this does not have any drastic effects on the employees on site, said brewery boss Pia Kollmar.
According to the company, the capacities for canned beer are to be expanded at the Oettinger site in Mönchengladbach. "To do this, we will end the production of disposable glass at the end of the first quarter of 2023 and shut down a reusable system," explained Kollmar. The technical conversions are already underway.
"Of course, the shutdown of some reusable systems is not done to weaken our Original Oettinger brand," explained Kollmar about the restructuring of the Swabian family company, which affects several locations. "Unfortunately, beer sales in Germany as a whole and thus also sales of our Original Oettinger brand have fallen continuously in recent years, which means that our reusable systems are no longer utilized to capacity," she added.
The Oettinger brewery had previously announced that it would close production and logistics at its location in Gotha, Thuringia, at the end of 2022. Parts of the production capacities and plants would be relocated to the three other brewery sites of the group of companies in Germany, it said.
