North Rhine-Westphalia: Okapi baby born in Cologne Zoo

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Rare offspring: An okapi baby saw the light of day in Cologne Zoo. The male offspring named Kijana was born at the end of June, the zoo announced on Thursday. While mother Hakima has already raised several young animals, it is the first offspring for father Qenco. There are now five okapis in total at Cologne Zoo.

The animals, also known as forest giraffes, are considered an endangered species. Their homeland is the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
