North Rhine-Westphalia: Parents seriously injured with an ax: trial against son

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - He is said to have hit his own parents several times with an ax - from today (1 p.m.) a 29-year-old man has to answer for this in a trial at the Cologne Regional Court. The two survived the nightly attack in their bedroom with serious injuries, the court said. The son is charged with attempted murder.

The 29-year-old lived with his parents in a house in Wermelskirchen (Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis) at the time of the crime in October 2021. A court spokesman said that the public prosecutor saw problems in the family as a possible motive: the parents had urged the son to find his own apartment and work before the crime.

After the crime, the 29-year-old fell from a bridge onto Autobahn 1. There was an accident in which other people were injured. According to the court, the 29-year-old has been struggling with serious permanent impairments ever since. Eight more days of negotiations are scheduled until September.
