Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - An attentive pizza driver prevented an old lady from being scammed in Krefeld. He had observed how the 85-year-old handed a box to a younger woman on the street. The police in Krefeld reported on Monday that the man became suspicious and asked the women what the handover was all about. "The box was supposed to be taken to the district court," the police said. The driver took a photo with his smartphone. Shortly thereafter, he stopped a patrol car, showed the photo and told about the scene. The younger woman was found nearby and a five-figure sum of money and jewelry were found in the box.
The old lady had been taken in by scammers who had claimed over the phone that her daughter had been in an accident and needed money. The 33-year-old alleged fraudster is now in custody after the incident on Friday.
