Aachen (dpa / lnw) - Hundreds of emergency services checked travelers on the border between North Rhine-Westphalia, Belgium and the Netherlands during a large-scale control day on Wednesday. The action should last until the evening, said a spokesman for the federal police in Aachen. The mission was directed against cross-border drug, burglary and smuggling crime. There was no specific reason, there are comparable large control days again and again, said the spokesman.
Customs, police officers from the Netherlands and Belgium as well as state and federal police were involved in the controls. "After Corona, we now want to strengthen cooperation again," emphasized the police spokesman. An exact balance of the control day should be available on Thursday morning.
