North Rhine-Westphalia: Police arrest "window knockers" in the train station

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Specialists from the federal police arrested a "window knocker" and his alleged accomplice in a Cologne train station for theft. The two suspects stole from a train passenger in Wuppertal, the federal police reported on Monday.

While one of the alleged thieves knocked on the train window from the platform and thus attracted the attention of the Wuppertaler, his accomplice grabbed his backpack and its contents, which cost around 2,500 euros. The duo didn't get very far, however, because civilian investigators specializing in pickpocketing and trickery already had them in their sights.

The two men had previously tried in vain to steal luggage using the small change trick. One of the thieves drops small change. While the eyes of those around him are fixed on the jingling coins, his accomplice tries to escape with someone else's luggage - only this tactic was unsuccessful on Sunday evening.

Because both men were illegally staying in Germany and within a few weeks they were repeatedly noticed negatively, they should be brought before a magistrate.
