North Rhine-Westphalia: Police fire two shots at thief: 24-year-old injured

Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - A 24-year-old suspected metal thief was caught by the police in Dortmund on Monday night and was hit by one or two shots from a police weapon. The Recklinghausen police, who took over the investigation from their Dortmund colleagues for reasons of neutrality, announced on Monday that he was seriously but not life-threateningly injured.

According to the information, three men had provided stolen goods from a metalworking company on Sunday afternoon. When they wanted to take the loot away around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, they met police officers who had figured them out.

It was said that two "shots were fired". A police spokesman initially gave no information as to whether the 24-year-old was hit by both shots and whether both shots were fired by a single police officer. It was also unclear whether the alleged thieves were armed. The other two men, aged 20 and 24, were arrested.
