North Rhine-Westphalia: police officers accused of obstructing criminal prosecution in office

Mülheim/Ruhr (dpa/lnw) - The Duisburg public prosecutor's office has accused two police officers of jointly frustrating criminal prosecution in office. The two service group leaders are said to have prevented investigations being initiated against a beating police officer, said a spokesman for the district court in Mülheim/Ruhr on Monday. The "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" had previously reported.

The police officer, who has already been sentenced to nine months' probation, is said to have tied up a suspect with a migration background and then beat him. A young policewoman witnessed what happened and made a memorandum. Your service group leader and that of the beating policeman are said to have agreed not to initiate proceedings against the officer.

According to the "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger", another officer is said to have covered the beating police officer, who also attracted attention because of right-wing extremist posts, with a false statement. She has since confessed and received a seven-month suspended prison sentence.

Instead of the beating police officer, the victim initially came to court for resisting the officers. In the process, however, the agreement was blown and the victim was acquitted. At least one of the two accused service group leaders denies the allegation. A trial date has not yet been set.
