North Rhine-Westphalia: primary school visit: shot in the police station has consequences

Blankenheim (dpa / lnw) - The shot from a police pistol during a visit by elementary school students to a police station in Blankenheim south of Bonn has consequences. The police in Euskirchen announced on Wednesday that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against the officer who handled the service weapon in the presence of the children.

Three primary school classes had visited the town hall and also the police station located there. An experienced police officer had taken a gun from the safe to show the children. The shot went off. The bullet went through a partition and got stuck in a closet. The children escaped with a fright. Nobody got hurt.

The muzzle of the gun did not point in the direction of the students when the shot was fired, the police emphasized on Wednesday. The primary school children were guided through the town hall by the mayor and a class teacher.
