North Rhine-Westphalia: Process after attack with broken bottle begins

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A 27-year-old has had to answer to the Düsseldorf district court since Thursday because he is said to have attacked a man with a broken glass bottle and seriously injured him. The defendant made a partial confession and admitted to hitting the victim with the bottleneck. However, he did not call out the death threats that the prosecution accuses him of. The crime happened in July in a light rail vehicle on the way from Düsseldorf to Meerbusch. The public prosecutor assumes attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm.

The actual cause of the dispute initially remained unclear. The defendant said he gave the victim money to keep. At first, a verbal argument broke out, which then led to a fight and finally to the bottle attack. Both parties involved were under the influence of alcohol.

According to the indictment, the subsequent victim suffered multiple cuts and stab wounds to the head, chest and back as a result of the attack. The man also suffered multiple broken ribs. Three more days of negotiations are scheduled for the process until December 9, 2022.
