Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Dietary supplements are becoming increasingly popular. Last year 2021, 19,631 tons of dietary supplements were produced in nine NRW manufacturing companies, as reported by the State Statistical Office (IT.NRW) on Tuesday. That was 3244 tons or 19.8 more than a year earlier. Sales have also increased rapidly: At 293 million euros, the sales value was 70 million euros (plus 31.4 percent) higher than in 2020.
In purely mathematical terms, the amount produced in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2021 could supply every inhabitant of the state with 91 grams of food supplements, such as vitamin capsules or calcium effervescent tablets, per month.
According to IT.NRW, the sales volume of dietary supplements even increased by 9238 tons (88.9 percent) compared to 2019. The sales value rose by 176 million euros (150.2 percent).
According to the information, a good 202,000 tons (12.1 percent compared to 2020) of food supplements worth 1.2 billion euros (13.1 percent) were produced nationwide in 2021. Of this, 24.0 percent of the production value was accounted for by NRW companies.
