An unusual finale starts in Bochum: Twelve teams compete for two days at the first German Escape Championships.

Bochum (dpa / lnw) - The final of the first German Escape Championships has started in Bochum. On Saturday, the twelve teams started a puzzle tour on their bikes, which led through the city center and passed many stations. "Despite the changeable weather, all teams started according to plan and are very motivated," said a spokesman for Bochum Marketing, which organizes the event. In escape games, players have to escape from a location filled with tasks within a given time. The puzzles can run as a board game, as outdoor or indoor games. Escape games have been booming for a few years.

After qualifying and preliminary rounds had been contested by participants from all over Germany in the past few weeks, the twelve teams will now be vying for the winning title until Sunday. The groups for the final - between two and six people each - come from Berlin, Bremen, Bochum, Bad Salzuflen, Cologne or Stuttgart.

The participants in Bochum emerged from an online game at the beginning of September as the best-timed groups. With this time result, the 49 participants now compete in the last two disciplines: After the tour on the bike, puzzles should be solved in a classic escape room on Sunday.

The winner and thus German champion is the team that has the best time from all three games. The winning team receives 500 euros, second place 300 euros and third place 200 euros.
