Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After a two-year break due to corona, the international care fair Rehacare is restarting in Düsseldorf. From Wednesday to Saturday almost 700 exhibitors from almost 40 countries will be showing products that are intended to make life easier for people with disabilities and those in need of care.
This year, the focus of the trade fair will be, among other things, aids for children and disabled-friendly conversion options for cars, as trade fair director Hannes Niemann said on Monday. For example, a full-body suit is new on the market, which is intended to relax the muscles of people with spastic disorders, for example. A small reading camera for visually impaired people, which can be attached to glasses, will also be presented.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, there were around 7.8 million severely disabled people in Germany at the end of 2021 - that's almost one in ten. According to care statistics, more than 4.1 million people were in need of care at the end of 2019. About 3.3 million of them were cared for at home.
Nursing and rehabilitation is a growing market worth billions: the statutory health insurance companies alone spent almost 9.8 billion euros on aids last year. There were also numerous privately financed products.
