North Rhine-Westphalia: senior couple robbed in the bedroom at night: manhunt

Bergheim (dpa / lnw) - After a brutal robbery on a senior couple in Bergheim west of Cologne, the police in the Rhein-Erft district are looking for four unknown perpetrators. They are said to have broken into the house of the 81-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife on Wednesday night and robbed the pensioner couple in the bedroom. Witnesses gave evidence of a suspected silver hatchback getaway vehicle, police said. The police took over the investigation and is looking for more witnesses.

According to initial investigations, the seniors were awakened during the night when four darkly dressed and masked men stood by their marriage bed. The perpetrators would have torn jewelry from the woman's fingers and arms and searched the bedroom. They left the room with the stolen valuables.

At a favorable moment, the elderly woman climbed onto the balcony through the bedroom window and called loudly for help. A neighbor called the police. The officials immediately launched a manhunt for the fugitive robbers. Other police officers took care of the two seniors. On site, the police found clear signs of a break-in on a window on the ground floor. Several rooms in the house were ransacked.
