North Rhine-Westphalia: "Serious deficiencies": License for Waldorf school withdrawn

Rheine (dpa / lnw) - The district government of Münster has withdrawn the school permit from a Waldorf school in Rheine because of "serious deficiencies in teaching". For the 71 children, school ends at the beginning of the autumn holidays at the beginning of October, as the district government announced on Tuesday. There have been numerous complaints since the end of 2020. The school authority was not able to rectify the shortcomings, and proper operation is currently and not guaranteed in the future.

The list of problems described by the district government is long: there were repeated violations of children's health protection. A spokesman for the district government said that corona protection measures had been violated massively and repeatedly. There was also a risk of accidents in the playground. The district government also criticized the school board as not being able to prevent the misconduct of individual teachers. "In addition, there is an insufficient number of teachers, school organizational deficits and a massively disrupted school peace," it said.

After all, the basis of trust required for the continued operation of the school was no longer given, so the school permit had to be revoked for the benefit of the children. "This is an absolutely exceptional process," said the spokesman. He is presumably the first case in the jurisdiction of the district government of Münster.

The closure will affect 57 primary school students and 14 in fifth grade. The Waldorf school was founded in 2017. In the meantime, there were classes up to the ninth grade. Because of the insufficient supply of teachers, which will worsen in 2022, the provider has already dissolved classes six, seven and eight on its own and announced the dissolution of class five, the district government said. The children are to be placed in other schools, and the teachers are to be advised on their career prospects.
