Bochum (dpa / lnw) - The former Bundesliga club SG Wattenscheid 09 has been promoted to the regional league. Coach Christian Britscho's team defeated FC Eintracht Rheine 2-0 (0-0) on Monday, making their return to the fourth division perfect. More than 6000 spectators attended the Oberliga game in the Lohrheide Stadium. The game started late because of the large crowd. Emre Yesilova and Dennis Lerche scored the goals for Wattenscheid.
In 2019, the club made headlines nationwide when the insolvent club withdrew its team from the ongoing game operations of the Regionalliga West.
